With instant access to the data Local Weather
Forecasts, images, and reports from the National Weather Service, (NWS), and other online sources, as well as timely reports from local broadcasters, cable television networks, and personalized storm alerts and forecasts delivered directly to your cell phone, email, pager, and cell phone, why would anyone ever need a home-weather station?
You can find the answer right in your backyard. The Local Weather conditions you experience at your home are often different from what any of these resources may suggest. Living here in southwest Virginia we know this all too well. The weather conditions on the mountain ridges are often very different from the ones down in the valleys.
It’s easy and affordable to keep an eye on the Local Weather in your area with your state-of-the art Local Weather station
Home weather stations can provide information that is unique, no matter how simple or complex. It is convenient and fascinating to be able to see your weather station console from your armchair or couch.
Prices for electronic Local Weather stations vary depending on the features and accessories you choose. They can cost as low as $30 or as high as $3,000, depending on what you want. These highly accurate instruments can be purchased in both wireless and cabled versions. They monitor weather conditions such as temperature, humidity, atmospheric pressure, precipitation and wind speed.
Advanced weather stations have more advanced features, such as higher sampling rates, detailed data graphing, history and additional sensors, including ultraviolet, solar radiation and evapotranspiration, soil temperature/moisture, and leaf wetness. Many electronic weather stations have a clock, and some of them can be radio controlled to reset themselves every day to the official U.S. government nuclear clock at Fort Collins, Colorado.

Cabled Local Weather stations connect to an indoor console via a cable
There are some drawbacks, such as the possibility of lightning and the need to drill a hole in a wall to connect the two. However, cabled units tend to be less expensive than wireless ones. Wireless weather stations transmit data using radio waves (typically in 433 MHz) and do not require the stringing of cables or drilling holes.
There can be a wide range of models that have a maximum “unobstructed” or “line-of-sight” distance between indoor console and sensors. It can range from 80 to 1000ft. Their “effective” range depends on the materials they must penetrate (walls and siding, roof structures, etc.). Radio interference sources. The effective range for a typical installation is approximately a third of its rated unobstructed range.
To get accurate measurements, weather station sensors must be properly placed. The sensors send data to the indoor console once they are installed. This displays the readings and updates the display at a set interval. The type of measurement (temperature or wind speed) may affect the interval. Regardless of the type, it may be set at one rate (every minute or every three minutes), ).
Many home Local Weather stations can interface with a computer
This is either an option or included in the package. A computer-linked station can display real-time weather data on your computer monitor. It also allows for advanced data collection and visual analysis.
You can post your weather data to your website or join the Citizen Weather Observer Program, which sends your information to the National Weather Service in a format that is acceptable for them. You can still participate in Skywarn as a volunteer Skywarn spotter, providing important weather information to your local NWS forecast office.
Weather is a popular topic. The information provided by home Local Weather stations, along with other relevant studies, can make it a worthwhile hobby that you can enjoy for the rest of your life. Many people have found that their home weather stations have helped them to understand weather forecast better, which has increased their interest in other aspects. Weather observation does not have to be limited to your home.
